A MAN assaulted a security guard at a Tesco after questioning the price of his shopping.

Rekan Kamal lashed out at Mohammad Shariff at the Metro branch Glasgow city centre on June 20 this year.

The 29-year-old was enraged after he was told he was not in possession of the store's Club Card.

Mr Sharif was then grabbed and pushed on the body as he tried to escort Kamal from the premises.

Kamal pleaded guilty today at Glasgow Sheriff Court to the assault.

He also admitted a separate charge of having a knife in a public place on an earlier occasion.

The court heard Kamal entered the store on St Enoch square and put a number of items through the self-scanner at 9pm.

Prosecutor Amy Hunter said: "Kamal indicated that he was confused at the price and the store's shift leader explained that he was not in possession of a Club Card..

"Kamal became visibly agitated and Mr Sharif made an attempt to escort him from the shop.

"Kamal grabbed Mr Sharif's hand and pushed him towards the body."

The attacker fled the scene towards Howard Street as police were alerted.

He was approached by officers and became agitated again but was put under arrest.

The court heard of an earlier occasion when Kamal was caught with a three-inch fix bladed black knife in the city centre's Dundas Street.

He was arrested and told officers that "it was not an offence to carry a knife."

Jackie Walls, defending, told the court Kamal, a failed asylum seeker from Iraq, has previous convictions but has never spent time in prison.

Sentence was deferred until next month for background reports by Sheriff Johanna Johnston QC who continued Kamal's remand in custody meantime.
