RESIDENTS have been evacuated from their homes following a fire within a top-floor flat in Glasgow's East End.

Emergency services responded to the blaze on Helenvale Street in the city after the alarm was raised at around 1.05pm today.

A "number of people" had to leave the building as firefighters tackled the fire.

Fire crews remain at the scene, but the blaze has now been extinguished.

Police confirmed one man is currently receiving treatment by the Scottish Ambulance Service for smoke inhalation.

Glasgow City Council's Traffic Control and Management (TRAFFCOM) team announced that Helenvale Street is closed from London Road to Tollcross Road.

Enquiries will be carried out to establish the circumstances of the fire.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 1.05 pm on Sunday, October 31, 2021 police and fire service attended a report of fire within a top floor flat in Helenvale Street, Glasgow.

"A number of people have been evacuated from the flats and the fire has now been extinguished by SFRS.

"One man is currently being treated by SAS for smoke inhalation. Enquiries will be carried out to establish the circumstances surrounding the fire."

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We received a call at 1.01pm on Sunday, October 31, 2021 to reports of a house fire on Helenvale Street, Glasgow. 

"Operations Control mobilised five appliances to the scene. Fire crews are still in attendance at the scene."
