Prince Charles has said the private sector can help deliver the finance needed to tackle climate change.

He said action was needed now as he addressed the world leaders summit in Glasgow at COP 26.

The Prince, said: “We have to put ourselves on what we might call a war like footing.

“You don’t need me to tell you the eyes and the hopes of the word on you.

“The time to act, literally, is now.

"We know what we must do, we must reduce emissions urgently and take action to tackle the already in our atmosphere.”

He added: “The scope and scale of the threat we face calls for a global systems solution to an economy that’s genuinely renewable and sustainable.”

Speaking at the opening ceremony of COP 26 in Glasgow he said the pandemic showed what could be achieved in a short space of time.

He said there’s no doubt in my mind the private sector is ready to pay its part to work with governments.”

Prince Charles speaking in place of the Queen who is under doctors orders to rest, addressed the word leaders summit.

He said: “We know it’s going to cost trillions, not billions, of dollars. And he asked: “who pays and how?”

He said governments had to build confidence in investors to ensure “risk is reduced”.
