UPDATE: 'Do NOT set off fireworks': Warning after major gas leak in Cumbernauld
A SERIOUS gas leak has resulted in a strong smell of the substance in areas in North Lanarkshire - including inside homes.
Repairs are currently being carried out to a broken gas pipe in Kildrum, Cumbernauld.
SGN has recommended not to smoke, and not to turn on any electrical switches if residents can smell gas in their property.
They revealed that the pressure of the leak was "so great that it could not be capped", and a specialist team is dealing with it.

The gas escape from the broken pipe could be heard over half a mile away, and residents from other areas, including Abronhill, took to social media to share their concerns.
