As the international climate conference COP26 enters its second week further traffic disruption continues with road closures and diversions in place to help accommodate the massive event.
While disruption continues in Glasgow, major travel routes such as the Clyde expressway and sections of the M8 remain closed, with the nearby Minerva Street - West Greenhill Place, which is located right next to the Exhibition centre train station, also closed.
Part of Dumbarton Road and Argyle Street is closed to traffic and no vehicles are allowed to park on the route.
It is warned that this is likely to cause severe congestion in the area as it is currently one of the alternative routes that people have been using because of the Clydeside Expressway being closed.
People are urged to plan their journeys in advance and drivers in particular are being asked to look at travelling outside peak times, consider if the journey is necessary at that time or at all and leaving the car, opting to travel in a different way to reduce congestion.
The M8 will be subject to lane restrictions and road closures until 6am on November 15. The Tradeston M8 On-slip at West Street will be closed with no access to North Street/Charing Cross.
Here is the full list of the road closures
- Congress Road: Road closed until 6am on Wednesday November 17
- Congress Way, Finnieston Quay, Tunnel Street, Stobcross Road (section Parallel to A814) and Castlebank Street: Full road closures lasting until 6am on Sunday November 21.
- Clyde Arc and Lancefield Quay: Road closure until 6am on Monday November 15.
- Finnieston Street – Houldsworth Street to Lancefield Quay: Road Closure until 6am Monday November 15.
- Clydeside Expressway – Partick Interchange to Anderston (Jnct 19): Road Closure until Monday November 15.
- Minerva Street - West Greenhill Place: Road Closed until 6am on Saturday November 13. Local Access to private carparks maintained.
Diversion routes will be in place around the SEC to keep traffic moving and, as with previous city events, Local Area Traffic Management Plans (LATMPs) are being developed to keep traffic moving for road users.
Active travel routes have still to be confirmed however, pedestrian access will be maintained on Finnieston Street, Lancefield Quay and Clyde Arc at all times as will routes for emergency services.
