A CITY CENTRE ROAD has been shut down by police amid an ongoing demonstration during COP26.

Activists from Extinction Rebellion appear to be sat in a rubber dingy in the middle of St Vincent Street while the area is surrounded by officers.

Protestors have erected a “defund deforestation” banner at the scene while “protect Amazon” and “blood money” have been spray-painted onto the Santander Bank.

A band from Extinction Rebellion are also outside the bank.

While the protest appears to be peaceful, there is a heavy police presence with around 50 police officers currently in attendance.

Demonstrators are said to be tied together with a metal chain and police are about to attempt to cut through it.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We are currently in attendance at a protest on St Vincent Street, Glasgow.

"Officers are engaging with those involved."

A separate and smaller demonstration is also being held outside the J.P. Morgan branch on Waterloo Street with a much smaller police presence.
