GLASGOW will become the first Scottish city to deliver Tesco shopping in electric vehicles.

The supermarket giant will receive 17 new vans across the city and will make deliveries to nearly 4,000 people per week.

It is hoped it will contribute to Glasgow's COP26 legacy as well as Tesco's goal to become a net zero company by 2035.

Tesco also plans to introduce electric charging ports at all of their locations across the UK.

Chief executive of Tesco UK, Jason Tarry said: "As part of our efforts to secure a COP26 legacy for Glasgow, I’m delighted that Glasgow will be the first Scottish city to transition to an all-electric Tesco home delivery fleet. We’re also increasing our use of rail distribution to take more emissions off our roads."

Minister for Transport Graeme Dey said:“Government, individuals and businesses all have a role to play when it comes to taking climate action. This is a welcome step from Tesco, looking to secure a lasting legacy from COP26, and good news for customers in Glasgow.
