Gritting teams in Renfrewshire are preparing to deal with the forthcoming cold weather.

Nine gritting machines will cover more than 800km of roads across Renfrewshire, with more than 4000 tonnes of grit ready to keep Renfrewshire moving throughout the winter period.

Residents will once again be able to track the local gritters on the council website, including local favourites such as Ploughlo Grittini, Tony Gritzpatrick and Fridge of Weir.

Gritting teams are part of the council’s #RenReady Ready for Winter campaign, aiming to make residents and workers aware of how to prepare for winter weather conditions.

#RenReady also provides information on how to avoid winter illness, including how to access flu and Covid booster vaccinations, and support available to tenants and residents to keep warm.

Councillor Cathy McEwan, convener of Renfrewshire Council’s infrastructure, land and environment policy board, said: “When the winter weather arrives, it’s a really challenging time for our teams as they try to keep Renfrewshire moving during snow and ice, but it’s great to see that we are prepared and ready to get going when the temperatures begin to drop.

Glasgow Times:

“We’ve got more than 4,000 tonnes of grit available for our teams to use and we monitor the weather 24/7 to ensure that we can get out ahead of the cold snap as soon as possible.
