The opening date for a new Aldi store near Glasgow has been revealed.

Store Manager Mark Drennan and his team of 26 colleagues will be welcoming shoppers to the new venue in Hamilton - and Team GB silver medallist Gemma Gibbons will also be there to cut the ribbon.

The supermarket giants will be offering their usual popular services, including their meat products with weekly offers, their award-winning ‘Specially Selected’ range – recently voted ‘Favourite Premium Supermarket Range’ by Good Housekeeping readers – exclusive Beers, Wines and Spirits, and a ‘Food to Go’ section.

Aldi’s 'Specialbuys' will also be available in the middle aisle every Thursday and Sunday, with offers on products ranging from electrical items to garden tools.

Mark Drennan said: “We can’t wait to open the doors to the new store in Hamilton. It’s set to be a special day and having Olympic hero Gemma Gibbons join us will make it a morning to remember.”

As Aldi has supplied Team GB with healthy food since 2015, Gemma will celebrate the store opening with the staff and customers.

She said: “I’m so excited to be opening Aldi’s new store, it will be great to chat to customers and a lovely way for me to thank Aldi for its support of Team GB.”

To get involved in helping the local community, the new store is calling on local charities and food banks in Hamilton to register with Neighbourly, a community engagement platform that links businesses to charitable organisations.

Local charities that register will be able to collect surplus food and perishable products, such as fruit, vegetables and baked goods, up to seven days a week. Any charities in the area that would like to partner up with the new Aldi store should email aldi@neighbourly.com.

The new store will be opening on Thursday December 2 at 8am, and is located at Palace Grounds Retail Park, Palace Grounds Road, Hamilton, ML3 6AD.

Its opening hours will be Monday - Saturday: 8:00am – 10:00pm, and Sunday: 9:00am – 8:00pm.
