Six pubs in and near Glasgow have been listed in the UK's best-selling beer and pub guide - and they are not as fancy as you might think.

Wetherspoons bars in Glasgow and Kirkintilloch feature in the Good Beer Guide for 2022.

The guide is collated by branch members of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA), who made their decisions following regular visits to check on the quality of the real ales on offer

Customer service, décor and overall atmosphere were considered too.

A CAMRA spokesman said: “The pubs all deserve their place in the Good Beer Guide 2022.

“It is our belief that if a licensee serves an excellent pint of real ale, then everything else in the pub, including customer service, quality of food and atmosphere, are likely to be of an equally high standard.”

On the list are city centre venues The Hengler’s Circus (Sauchiehall Street), The Sir John Moore (Argyle Street), Sir John Stirling Maxwell (Kilmarnock Road) and The Society Room (West George Street).

The Kirky Puffer in Kirkintilloch also made the list, as well as The Esquire House on Great Western Road, Anniesland.

The Sir John Moore manager, Ross Henderson, said: “I am delighted that the pub has been recognised for the quality of its real ales by CAMRA members.

“We offer our customers an excellent range of real ales at all times, including those from regional brewers and microbrewers, as well as hosting our own beer festivals.

“Staff at the pub work hard to ensure that the real ales on offer are kept in first-class condition at all times and the pub’s inclusion in the guide highlights this.”
