SCHOOLCHILDREN from Glasgow's West End have been learning about road safety.

Pupils at Knightswood Primary School have been taught about staying safe on the dark roads.

Through the Be Safe Be Seen campaign, launched by CALA Homes, the school received 30 high visibility vests, bags and wristbands to help keep pupils visible on the way to and from school.

The initiative aims to educate children on the importance of dafety and visibility as the days get shorter and it gets darks earlier.

Liana Canavan, sales and marketing director for CALA Homes (West), said: "Health and Safety is of vital importance to us at CALA and we are delighted to support Knightswood Primary School with our Be Safe Be Seen safety pack helping them stay safe as the days get darker.

"Road Safety Week is a fantastic and informative platform to teach youngsters all about the dangers of our roads.

"Many of our developments are located close to schools so it makes perfect sense for us to do what we can to help pupils stay safe and seen as they walk to and from school during the winter months.

"We hope that the reflective packs will reinforce the importance of children being visible to motorists and the need for drivers to watch their speed, particularly in residential areas and around schools."

Jonathan Cunningham, headteacher at Knightswood Primary School, added: “As we approach the winter period, we all have a responsibility to share the important message of, ‘Be Safe, Be Seen’.

“The children and staff are very grateful to CALA Homes (West) for their kind donation of 30 packs which will be distributed to children who can wear them to ensure road users know that we are there. The packs will also help us highlight the differences and benefits of fluorescent and reflective materials.”
