EDINBURGH'S Christmas attractions have been closed due to adverse conditions caused by Storm Arwen.

All rides, Santa’s Grotto, Ice Skating and markets closed in East Princes Street Gardens, West Princes Street Gardens, and George Street at 3pm.

A red weather warning is in place just east of Edinburgh with the storm set to bring winds of up to 90mph.

The alert warns there is a very real risk of 'damage to buildings and homes, with roofs blowing off and power lines being brought down'.

The public has been advised not to travel and stay at home if possible by Transport Minister Graeme Day.

There are closures on the A1 and ScotRail services are impacted out of the capital as speed restrictions are in place.
