SCOTRAIL is warning customers of "major disruption" to its services today as Scotland continues to be battered by Storm Arwen.

Trains travelling between Glasgow and Edinburgh are among those affected.

Network Rail Scotland teams are carrying out safety checks on a number of routes this morning to assess the damage following yesterday's "extreme weather".

It is expected that this process will take "several" hours to complete and ScotRail is advising customers not to travel until services resume. 

Glasgow routes requiring safety checks:

  • Glasgow Queen Street -Dunblane 
  • Glasgow Queen Street - Edinburgh via Falkirk High 

Throughout the night there were reports of damage to overhead lines and services across the network being disrupted due to debris from the storm.

This included fallen trees, a trampoline, and a barn that was blown onto the line near Polmont. 

ScotRail services are not expected to run on routes that were disrupted yesterday until at least midday today with major disruption predicted to continue for "most of the day".

  • Glasgow Queen Street - Edinburgh Waverley via Falkirk Grahamston. [Major disruption]
    • Glasgow Central - Carlisle. [Major disruption] 
    • Glasgow Queen Street - Edinburgh Waverley via Falkirk High. [Minor disruption]
    • Glasgow Queen Street - Aberdeen. [Minor disruption]
    • West Highland Line (Oban, Fort William & Mallaig). [Major disruption]
