STAFF and volunteers at Toryglen Community Base were recently delighted with a £500 cheque from the Asda Foundation.

The grant will allow the community group, which is based five minutes from Asda Toryglen, to enjoy a well-deserved Christmas party.

During the pandemic, Toryglen Community Base has been helping their local community by delivering groceries to local families in need every Wednesday.

Since the easing of lockdown restrictions, the group have also been holding a weekly Elevenses cafe giving out free tea, coffee, cakes and breakfast rolls on Wednesday morning.

The cafe, which has between 20 and 30 regular guests, was set up to bring the community back together and to be a lifeline for many who were isolated over the last 18 months.

There is also an arts and crafts session in the afternoon.

"I was thrilled to present them with this grant and help them celebrate together as they are true lockdown superheroes."
