Verdict: Five stars.

MODFATHER Paul Weller more than made up for lost time by delivering a mammoth set at Glasgow’s Barrowland Ballroom on Monday night.

With lockdown postponing the original show at the East End venue, the rocker gave his fans a night to remember by performing some of his greatest songs old and new for well over two hours.

The suave singer, 63, opened up his set with the upbeat White Sky taken from the 2015 album Saturns Pattern before diving into Peacock Suit and My Ever Changing Moods.

He then said with a smile: “I have to say how wonderful it is to be playing back in front of you.”

And the audience felt exactly the same way as they welcomed Weller and his band - which included Ocean Colour Scene guitarist Steve Cradock - with an atmosphere like no other.

It amped up on The Style Council classic Shout to the Top.

It reached new levels on Broken Stones as Weller took to the piano to show off the soulful tones in his voice on the hit.

And Changingman quite simply sent the crowd into a frenzy with the rock anthem solidifying Weller’s position as the ultimate frontman.

From his bands The Jam and The Style Council to his solo career, the singer’s set list was a sample of everything he has done over the past five decades - and it is a pretty impressive resume.

Shades of Blue stood out as it introduced a new generation of Weller.

Taken from his latest album Fat Pop (Volume 1), the track was co-written with his daughter Leah.

While the new was appreciated, it was the classics the fans lapped up as Weller wowed on Wild Wood.

The Barrowlands was made for an artist like Weller. He thrives in the intimacy of the venue and performs to such a high standard it’s hard not to be left feeling nothing but impressed by his performance.

His encore of The Jam anthems That’s Entertainment and Town Called Malice secured the show’s success and proved that Weller’s music continues to stand the test of time.
