TODAY will see the spectacular illumination of Glasgow City Chambers as council bosses urge revellers to head to the city centre and enjoy the festive fun on offer.

This year, alongside the lights on the city's civic centre, lighting programmes will brighten Buchanan Galleries and Glasgow Royal Concert Hall on Sauchiehall Street and at the Buck’s Head Building at the St Enoch Centre on Argyle Street.

Glasgow Life is urging people to follow the city centre trail and view the lights while enjoying Christmas entertainment and shopping.

Glasgow Times:

The route starts in George Square where generations have enjoyed traditional festive decorations - including the famous nativity scene.

Glasgow City Chambers is set to be a festive focal point as it is lit up with bright lights and lasers beamed from the roof as part of a light display running until January 2 at midnight.

From George Square, head towards Royal Exchange Square to take in the much-loved canopy of twinkling lights.

Take a stroll around the square while feeling like you are walking under the stars, and enjoy popping into some of the designer stores or a bar or two for a Christmas cocktail.

From here, head down Queen Street towards Argyle Street to St Enoch Centre, which is lit up in Christmas style

Glasgow Times:

Just outside the entrance to Caffè Nero and HMV, there is an illuminated reindeer standing tall beside a canopy of string lights.

After the Glasgow reindeer, continue along Argyle Street heading east to take in the second of the Glasgow Illuminated projections at The Buck’s Head Building.

This Alexander Greek Thomson building will be seen as never before, encased in festive lighting.

Glasgow Times:

Head back west along Argyle Street and pop down the lane to one of Glasgow's oldest and cosiest pubs, Sloans.

Slightly further along is the Christmas Market at St Enoch Square with traders from across the globe.

Cross over to Buchanan Street where the first stop is House of Fraser, which is transformed into a festive spectacular, with the building draped in lights.

Make sure you pop inside to pick up gifts and to see the cascading lighting display in the atrium.

Just across from House of Fraser sits Princes Square which is beautifully decorated for the season.

Take a photo at their selfie spot in front of their 42ft Christmas tree and post it on

Instagram using the hashtag #GlasgowsBestChristmasTree to be entered into a prize draw.

Head back up Buchanan Street to take in the decorations on the city’s most popular shopping street.

Once you reach the top, you’ll be rewarded with more Glasgow Illuminated lighting projections at Buchanan Galleries and Glasgow Royal Concert Hall.
