MyShawlands are bringing Christmas cheer back to the Southside this weekend with an evening full of festive fun.

The Christmas light switch-on event will be held this Friday, December 3rd from 4pm to 8pm and will see the Langside Halls courtyard turned into a full-blown winter wonderland.

With food stalls, fire jugglers and school choirs, MyShawlands project manager Lisa McLaughlin says the festivities are all about giving the local community a little bit of yuletide joy.

She said: "We have choirs from Shawlands Primary School and Langside Primary School who will be singing for us.

"Then we'll have a countdown for the lights to come on followed by the Glasgow Rock Choir and Brass, Aye.

"We've also got a fire act who is amazing – they do a show with juggling and acrobatics.

"A bit of fire always adds some drama."

Amazingly that's not all that will be on offer at the event which will also host a Santa's grotto, reindeer rodeo, face painting, decoration making and a bubble performer.

Lisa said: "The Shawlands community have been wonderful all throughout covid.

"People have been shopping local more than ever and businesses really appreciate that, so this night is a bit of a thank you to them.

"I think people have missed having something to go to.

"We’re just delighted to be able to do something this year and we hope that everyone enjoys themselves."

To make the evening as accessible as possible, there will be no entry fee for the event other than Santa's grotto which is operated by a booking system.

Instead, local photographer and star of this year's One Show children in need special Dylan Lombard, who will be switching the lights on, asks that charitable donations are made to Marie Curie.
