Festive characters will take over Renfrew this weekend as Christmas celebrations begin.

Elves, giant nutcrackers, Christmas candles and more figures will appear on the streets in Renfrewshire to spread festive cheer.

On Saturday, the characters, produced by arts company Bridgeman Arts will also hand out tokens that can be exchanged in local businesses for special offers.

Throughout the day, Renfrew Burgh Band will also perform multiple pop-up performances.

The events will last from 12pm until 4pm, and replace the traditional light switch-on.

Pauline Allan, Renfrewshire Council’s events manager, said: “It was great to see people out spending time with families and friends in Johnstone last weekend and we can’t wait to bring Festive Fun to Renfrew.

“We are delighted to be working with local businesses as part of the event – and our thanks go to all who have signed up.”
