ONE of Glasgow’s original and best toy appeals has partnered with us to ensure every child in the city has a present under the tree on Christmas morning.

The Salvation Army has a long tradition of giving out Christmas gifts to children up to the age of 16.

Glasgow Times readers can drop off presents at any Salvation Army church in the city using the Bank on Us bags handed out in last Friday’s edition. Gifts will then be wrapped and given out. Due to the pandemic, charities are unfortunately unable to accept used items.

Major Ray Brown, the charity’s divisional commander in the west of Scotland, said: “As a church and charity, we are inspired by the Christmas message to reach out to people in need.

“Through our community work across Glasgow we have seen first-hand the impact of the pandemic on the families we support. That’s why we look forward to working hard to bring Christmas cheer to children and young people who might otherwise go without.

“The Christmas Present Appeal relies on the incredible generosity of the public and businesses, as well as the support of our dedicated volunteers.

“We know this year has been difficult for so many but we ask that people continue to support us and help make the difference this Christmas.

“If you have children, grandchildren, or children you support, think of what they might like in their Christmas stocking and consider buying an extra present and donating it.”

Gifts can take the form of newly purchased items such as toys as well as toiletry sets and make-up for older teenagers.

Last year’s campaign saw around 100,000 gifts sent to children across the Glasgow area.
