A GP surgery in Bellshill has had to reduce services this week due to members of staff self isolating with Covid-19 symptoms.

All practice staff at the Bruce Medical Practice are awaiting test results. Some appointments were cancelled yesterday and patients may have to wait longer for test results.

The decision was made as a safety precaution for patients and staff at the practice.

The surgery will use existing "buddy" schemes in place to cover medical and administration issues and will be making use of video appointments over the next few days. Patients will still be able to access care and advice on an urgent basis, but the surgery will be unable to offer routine appointments.

Dr Sian Campbell, Bruce Medical Practice, said: “Unfortunately, we had to cancel some appointments yesterday. We also closed the practice to carry out a deep clean of the building.

“All practice staff have been advised to self-isolate and are waiting on their test results. Plans are underway to ensure patient services will be back to normal as soon as possible.”

“We will continue to provide urgent care services for our patients at this time. However, we are unable to offer routine appointments. All patients who have scheduled appointments are being contacted.

“Anyone phoning the practice may have to wait longer for an answer due to reduced reception staff. We will have an automated message to advise patients of the situation.

“If patients have a life threatening condition we would urge them to contact 999. NHS 111 can help if you have an urgent medical problem and you’re not sure what to do.”
