FOUR men were arrested by specialist officers on Tuesday as part of a crackdown on domestic violence across the city.

We told yesterday how the Glasgow Times exclusively joined John Semple, the Detective Inspector in charge of the Domestic Abuse Investigation Unit within Greater Glasgow Division, and his team, at their early morning briefing at Govan’s Helen Street police station.

Specially trained uniformed officers were preparing to carry out a day of action to help some of the city’s most vulnerable victims of domestic abuse.

They were briefed by DI Semple and Detective Superintendent Donna Duffy.

Glasgow Times:

It can now be revealed that four men, aged 18, 24, 32 and 37, were arrested on Tuesday. Three of them were charged with alleged domestic offences – two were from the city’s Southside and one lived in the East End.

DI Semple and his team deal with crimes that are classified as serious and violent domestics.

The Glasgow Times joined them as they were taking part in an international campaign – 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, which started on November 25 and is International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women – and runs until December 10, which is Human Rights Day.

Tuesday was the 13th day of action and DI Semple encouraged anyone who is suffering from domestic violence to speak with the police or a partner agency.

He said: “We’re always here for domestic abuse victims. Some will feel uncomfortable coming to a police office, so we’ll meet them at a partner agency base. We do try to make them as comfortable as possible.”
