Steve Bronski, co founder of Bronski Beat, has died aged 61.
Bronski was born Steven Forrest in Glasgow and formed the synth pop group in 1983 with Essex-born Larry Steinbachek and fellow Glaswegian Jimmy Somerville.
They achieved chart success with their 1984 hit Smalltown Boy, and Bronski was responsible for reviving the band and recording new music in 2016 after a long hiatus.
Jimmy, who went on to join Reverend Richard Coles in the Communards and performed as a solo artist, paid tribute to Steve on Twitter.
Sad to hear Steve Bronski has died. He was a talented and a very melodic man. Working with him on songs and the one song that changed our lives and touched so many other lives, was a fun and exciting time. Thanks for the melody Steve. Jimmy x pic.twitter.com/VfxbtZu1Nx
