A THUG threatened to blow up Drumchapel Health Centre after he demanded medication and was refused.

Christopher McLaughlin, 37, went to the reception desk at around 5.10pm on April 2, last year. He demanded his doctor give him medication, but the health centre was in the process of closing, and he did not have an appointment.

Glasgow Sheriff Court heard that he was refused access to his doctor, but he made his way along the corridor.

Prosecutor fiscal depute Victoria Keel said: “The double doors leading into the doctor’s surgery were secured to prevent the accused entering.

“He kicked the doors multiple times causing them to break and he gained access. The accused was acting in an aggressive manner, shouting, and swearing and stated he was going to blow the place up.

“Police were contacted and attended and observed the accused seated within the doctor’s surgery. He was removed and cautioned and charged.”

In another incident on July 18 last year, police were conducting uniformed foot patrols at Partick railway station when they were alerted by members of the public that McLaughlin had fallen whilst travelling up the escalator.

Ms Keel said: “They confirmed the accused had no injuries and due to his intoxication, told him he would not be allowed to travel on the train.

“He shouted to police ‘I’m f*****g getting that train to the Drum. I’m f*****g getting the train and you two p****s are not going to stop me’.

“The accused was escorted out of the station, and he continued his aggressive conduct saying ‘f**k you, I’m going to f**k you’, and threw his hat on the ground and challenged police to a fight.

“He was informed he was under arrest and cautioned and charged. He replied, ‘I’m guilty, it was the drink’.”

At Tesco Express in Partick on December 12, 2021, McLaughlin, from Knightswood, racially abused a security guard.

Ms Keel said: “The accused was standing outside the front entrance shouting loudly towards the 27-year-old security guard. The security guard asked him to move away from the store as he was blocking the entrance.

“He continued to shout stating it was his human right to stand. He crossed the road and returned a short time later shouting at the security guard ‘go home, go home, go back to your own f*****g country, f**k off’.”

McLaughlin’s lawyer described him as a “fairly complicated character”.

The defence solicitor said: “He didn’t appear before the court until 2019, but since then has frequently appeared in relation to matters of a similar nature.

“His convictions are as a result of his alcohol problem. He is someone who regularly sleeps rough. He is extremely vulnerable but doesn’t accept that. He requires some sort of assistance.

“People going about their employment should not be subject to the conduct they have been. When he’s sober, he does express a desire not to be before the court.”

Sheriff Amel Elfallah told McLaughlin: “You cannot behave the way you did. You need to stay off the drink, that seems to be the main problem.

“I will put you on a structured deferred sentence, so you continue to get support from social work.”

A review will be held in three months’ time.
