RESIDENTS have expressed their shock as a historic Southside footballing building was demolished today.
The building known as the ‘farmhouse’ at the Lesser Hampden stadium is considered one of the oldest in the football world.
Mount Florida residents have reacted as pictures on social media showed the former changing pavilion being knocked down as part of plans to redevelop the Queen’s Park F.C. grounds.
Resident Richie Dempsey said: “It’s total vandalism, I’m really disappointed as Queens Park have a lot in their history to be proud of.
"Structurally, that was the last bit, it’s a shame really.”

Chris Carus, who also lives in the area, said: “I'm a bit sad to see this last connection with Mount Florida's pre-Victorian history lost.”
One resident who wished to remain anonymous said: “I only received a letter last week and was shocked to see the demolition today.
“Sad to see such an historic building being destroyed to a pile of rubble.”
Resident Sarah Roberts said: “It’s really sad that they’ve demolished a piece of local history.”
Plans for the stadium, owned by Queen’s Park F.C., include the erection of a new stand for directors and sponsors with hospitality facilities in place of the farmhouse.
A planning application for the alterations is currently under review by Glasgow City Council.
When first revealing the plans on their website earlier this month, the club said: “To accommodate these plans, the difficult decision has been made to demolish the farmhouse building, as its condition has deteriorated significantly over time.

“It would also limit the club’s ability to expand improved facilities towards the Somerville Drive side of the ground."
More plans for the stadium include a 1,000 capacity East Stand, running the full length of the pitch, new pitch-side dressing rooms, a new South Stand for 500 visiting supporters, and a refit of the JB McAlpine Pavilion.
