TWO Glasgow sports facilities have been forced to temporarily close next week due to "staff shortages"

Easterhouse Pool located in the city's East End and Palace of Art in Bellahouston will shut on Monday, December 20.

Glasgow Life, which runs the city's Glasgow Club facilities, announced the closures on social media yesterday stating it was a "difficult decision".

The organisation said staff absences are "due to Covid-19" as a result of confirmed cases and employees self-isolating after being identified as close contacts.

The venues are expected to reopen on January 3, 2022.

A statement reads: "Due to staff shortages as a result of Covid-19, unfortunately Easterhouse Pool and Palace of Art will not open next week.

"Like all sectors, Glasgow Life is experiencing increased staff absence due to Covid-19 as a result of confirmed cases, and where staff have been asked to self-isolate as close contacts of those with the virus.

"We are doing all we can to ensure venues which are currently open remain so, and to make sure we continue to offer our services safely.

"However, as is the case with Palace of Art and Easterhouse Pool, we are unable to safely open these venues and have made the difficult decision to close from Monday, December 20. We anticipate both venues will reopen on January 3, 2022.

"We hope you understand that the closure of venues is a last resort for Glasgow Life, but customer safety and the welfare of our staff are paramount, and following the latest government guidance will remain central to how we operate our facilities."
