A DRUG dealer who was caught dealing in the street and had his house raided by cops has been told he is a “disgrace” by a sheriff.

Police spotted Matthew McAllister, 36, hand over a small bag of powder in exchange for money in Rutherglen on April 2 at 3pm.

At Glasgow Sheriff Court, prosecutor fiscal depute Monique Cooney said: “Police observed a white Audi pulling into a space.

“A male approached the vehicle and started to speak with the driver. The male handed a quantity of money to the accused. The accused placed this money on the passenger seat. He handed the male a small bag, which appeared to contain white powder.

"The man walked away. Police attempted to approach the vehicle to speak with the driver but when doing this he exited the space and drove off. Police followed. Whilst the accused was stationary at a red traffic light, police exited their vehicle and approached him.

“He was detained and responded ‘it was just a bit of gear for my pal. He owed me money anyway’. The car was searched. A small polythene bag containing white powder was found. A further four bags were found under the driver’s foot mat.

“He was informed officers were required to carry out a roadside test. He replied ‘I took some lines last night. I’m selling a bit for my pal’.

“He was arrested and taken to Cathcart police office. He stated ‘I just do this at the weekends, I just cover costs’.”

A few hours later, officers attended at his home in possession of a warrant. They were given access by his wife, who was described as “being hostile”. The court heard that several drug paraphernalia items were seized along with 55 grams of cocaine.

Officers found £1900 in the kitchen, a further £500 and another £185 from a bedroom.

McAllister’s lawyer said his client has no criminal history.

He added: “He understands how serious this is. He was doing well in the financial services industry. He lost his career and had too much time on his hands. He was already in a situation where he was using cocaine himself and became involved in this.”

Sheriff Allan McKay told McAllister: “Frankly, you’re a disgrace. This should be personally embarrassing to you and your family. Someone with your background to be involved in this is disgusting."

He was ordered to stay within his Cambuslang home from 8pm-6am for three months.
