THREE much-loved charities are celebrating this week thanks to a welcome funding boost from readers of the Glasgow Times.

Our Cash for Charities initiative encouraged people to vote for their favourite good cause to win a share of £20,000.

Chest Heart and Stroke Scotland will receive £2897.65, cancer support centre Maggie’s Glasgow, £3900.41 and Beloved Rabbits, £1175.66.

They will also receive £200 each from our More than a Subscription initiative. For every annual subscription taken out in November, we donated £10 to be split between the three.

Our parent company’s charitable arm, The Gannett Foundation, provided the £20,000. Along with our sister titles The National, The Herald and the Greenock Telegraph, we gave eight charities across Scotland the chance to receive a funding boost. Readers collected tokens which appeared in our newspapers every day during November to determine how the cash pot was divided.

Maggie’s Glasgow provides emotional, financial and practical support to people with cancer and their families.

Kerry Craig, Centre Head said: “We are delighted to receive such a generous award through the Glasgow Times Cash for Charities initiative. Thank you to everyone who voted for us. This money will help us to run our programme of Where Now? courses in 2022, ensuring people are supported as they adapt and adjust after cancer treatment finishes.”

Beloved Rabbits in Kirkintilloch provide rehoming, welfare and foster care services for these popular but misunderstood pets.

Co-founder David Bell said: “Beloved Rabbits are delighted to have been part of Cash for Charities, and to benefit from the opportunity to raise more awareness for rabbit welfare issues throughout Scotland.

“The money we’ll be receiving will allow us to pay the vet bills associated with neutering around nine rabbits as part of preparation for finding them a new forever home.”
