SHOCKING images show mountains of rubbish piled high in Glasgow amid binmen staff shortages.

Bins outside flats on Broomhill Drive can be seen overflowing with stuffed black bin bags, cardboard boxes, plastic bags and cans. Glasgow Times:

A recycling point on Dumbarton Road is also seen with rubbish sticking out of it, surrounded by plastic bags and cardboard on the public path.

An old Christmas tree has been dumped too, despite Glasgow City Council offering recycle points for trees at Kelvingrove Park, Alexandra Park and Pollok Park until January 31. Glasgow Times:

One West End resident tweeted pictures of rubbish in their area and wrote: “@GlasgowCC care to explain why there hasn't been a been a bin uplift at my property in past two plus weeks, despite the fact we're paying for additional uplifts?

We previously reported that Glasgow City Council had warned residents of delays in bin collections and that they were “struggling to provide a service” due to a “severe” shortage of staff during the Omicron outbreak.

The spokesperson added: “We are experiencing some delays to household refuse collections in general due to a combination of staff absence, catching up on workload from public holidays and dealing with the additional waste generated during the festive period.

“We aim to have caught up with all collections in the coming days.”
