A BUSY road in Glasgow's Southside has reopened after temporarily closing due to a pothole.

Shields Road in Tradeston closed earlier today after the fault appeared on the road surface.

Police said that officers would be assisting with traffic management in the area while repair work was being carried out.

Glasgow City Council confirmed that work has now been undertaken and that the road has since reopened.

A council spokesperson added that faults on road surfaces are "exacerbated" by weather conditions such as heavy rain, frost, and snow.

It comes as Glasgow woke up to heavy snow this morning just days into the New Year.

A yellow weather warning was in place across most of Scotland with forecasters warning of possible travel delays, stranded vehicles and passengers, as well as delayed or cancelled rail and air travel.

A Glasgow City Council spokesperson said: "Repairs have been undertaken on a fault that appeared on Shields Road and the road has now reopened.

"Faults on the road surface can appear at any time and are exacerbated by weather conditions such as heavy rain, frost, and snow.

"We always prioritise the most serious faults that appear to ensure our roads are safe for use."
