Adam Anderson murder hunt: Burnt out car found

As reported in our sister title, the Greenock Telegraph, members of the public said that police have spent two days combing part of a remote hillside track off Kilmacolm Road after a charred vehicle was found there.

Officers in forensic suits remained at the location, near Knocknairshill Cemetery, yesterday afternoon.

Scenes of crime investigators had sealed off the entrance to the track as they collected evidence and stored items in boxes.

One eyewitness said: "The police and the forensics have been on the scene for a couple of days, looking at a burnt out car.

"There are always burnt out cars up here and lots of rubbish dumped.

"It is terrible, the state of the place, but it is always popular with dog walkers about here."

The country path stretches from Greenock's east end to Port Glasgow, lying close to the cycle track.

Police Scotland did not answer the Telegraph's enquiry about the activity of their officers.

It comes as detectives hunt the killer of 22-year-old Mr Anderson, who died following a violent disturbance on Sunday.

He was found seriously injured in a car park at Broomhill Court, off Ann Street, and died after being rushed to hospital.

It is understood that a vehicle was involved in the incident which led his death.

Police yesterday said they had no update on their investigations when asked and that enquiries remain ongoing.

The force also refused to make the officer who is leading the inquiry, Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Grainger, available for interview by the Telegraph on both Tuesday and Wednesday.
