A GLASGOW bar will feed 'local weans' throughout January to keep its staff busy during what's expected to be a quiet month.

The Clutha Bar has said rather than sitting "on our bums" over the next few weeks, they will be providing local nurseries, charities and groups with "thousands" of their famous pizzas.

A post on The Clutha Trust's Facebook page said they will be aiming to help children in the Gorbals, Pollok, Govanhill and "beyond".

The Clutha Bar owner and founder of The Clutha Trust, Alan Crossan, said: "The pubs are quiet just now with the restrictions we have so the chefs and staff kind of stand about not doing anything.

"It was just to keep them in employment and help feed local kids round about the Gorbals, Pollock, places like that.

"Rather than the kitchen lying about doing nothing we thought we might as well do something positive."

In order to help them support the local community, The Clutha is asking that people support the pub by coming in for a pint, pie or pizza.

Alan said: "If punters want to come in and buy a pint and a steak pie or a pizza, that will then help keep our staff on and keep us going and doing other things and helping young people."

The Clutha Trust is a music and arts charity based in Glasgow that holds events in pubs and clubs to raise funds to help those in need by reason of age, ill-health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantages.
