A MUM-OF-FOUR attacked a neighbour who refused to give her vodka before threatening her with a toilet roll holder.

Depute fiscal Ryan Watson told Glasgow Sheriff Court how Rebecca Paterson kicked off at victim Agnes McDougall late at night on August 8, 2020.

At 11.30pm Mrs McDougall was in her garden when Paterson appeared and demanded the booze but was told no.

Mrs McDougall told the 28-year-old who, the court heard, seemed to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol, that she was going to speak to her father.

But Paterson followed her neighbour and grabbed her by her hair, pulling her to the ground.

The other woman landed heavily sustaining an injury to her left wrist and pain to her neck.

She later attended at hospital, the court heard, and was referred to a physiotherapist for torn ligaments.

At 5am on August 9, 2020 the witness Agnes McDougall was at home with another woman.

Mr Watson said: "They had cause to look out the window and observed the accused outside brandishing an item which they initially believed to be a hammer.

"The item was left in the garden and turned out to be a heavy based toilet roll holder."

Police arrived and as Paterson was cautioned and charged she said “I wasn’t even there. I haven’t argued with Aggie.”

Her defence brief said there had been a long running dispute in the community between the parties involved but that the situation was resolving.

He said: “She sometimes has difficulty processing information and concentrating.

"Perhaps she should have stayed on at school beyond the second year and that would have helped her.

"Where she lives it’s not the type of place people go through trying to be somewhere else.

"It’s fairly insular and isolated with high levels of deprivation."

Sheriff Diana McConnell placed Paterson on a community payback order with 12 months of supervision.

Paterson was also tagged for 45 days, keeping her at home from 9pm til 7am Monday to Friday to allow her to take her children to activities and 8pm til 7am at weekends.
