A CHEF caught with a blade by police as he went to buy drugs was jailed on Monday for 15 months.
Rhys Alan was snared with the lock back knife inside a close in Glasgow city centre on February 24, 2021.
The 25-year-old been released from a previous sentence over a month before before.
Alan pleaded guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to possession of the knife in a public place without a reasonable excuse or lawful authority.
The court heard Alan and two others were heard loitering outside the building.
A police call led officers to a smashed window in the building.
Prosecutor John Bedford said: “Officers entered the close and found three men who said they were there to purchase drugs.
“They were subject to a search and on Mr Alan, officers found a multi-tool with a 3.5cm lock back knife in his left sock.”
Alan was then arrested.
John Kilcoyne, defending, told the court: “He was intoxicated and foolishly had the knife in his possession.
“He is a trained chef and worked in various restaurants such as Nando’s.
“He indicated should have known better as he has an analogous previous conviction for having a knife on his possession.”
Alan’s other previous convictions include an assault to severe injury in 2017.
Sheriff Tom Hughes told Alan, of the city’s Anniesland, that a custodial sentence would always be the result for the offence.
