A BIRTHDAY boy kicked off at his own celebrations and punched two strangers for no reason.

Antony Wright left one of his victims scarred for life following the attack in Revolution on Mitchell Street in Glasgow city centre.

It was a birthday night out for the 26-year-old on July 20, 2019, when Wright got chatting to two other men at the bar.

Glasgow Sheriff Court heard how "without clear provocation" Wright suddenly punched one of the men to the head using his right fist.

This caused the man to lose his balance and fall to the floor.

Wright, from Dennistoun, then turned to the other man and also hit him to the face causing him to fall backwards on to the ground.

He was escorted from the premises while members of staff at the bar checked on the two injured men.

One of them had suffered contusions to his face that were bleeding heavily.

Police and ambulance arrived five minutes later, around 10.50pm, and both victims were taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

One man was able to be released after being checked over.

The other man had more serious injuries with a laceration running from the bridge of his nose to his eye.

At the hospital it was noted there was pressure building up in the victim's eye socket and the injury to his nose required glue.

He has been left with a scar.

Wright's defence lawyer said: "This is a very significant offence."

He said Wright has several road traffic offences on his record but "nothing of this nature".

He added: "This was what was intended to be a birthday celebration for Mr Wright.

"He had not been drinking for a period of time prior to this evening.

"He has anxiety issues relating to the death of his father in 2010 and he lost his job in 2018 and went into a downward spiral because of that.

"He didn't know either of these two people.

"Some remarks were passed but they don't justify this."

The lawyer added that Wright is part of a "family unit" with three young children to support.

Sheriff Patricia Pryce said: "This is a matter for which you could go straight to jail.

"I am persuaded due to your lack of previous violence I can deal with this with an alternative to custody."

Wright was placed on a community payback order with supervision to last for 12 months.

He must carry out 270 hours of unpaid work.

And he was ordered to pay his first victim £750 in compensation and his second victim £400 in compensation.
