A MAKE-UP artist has hit out at "heartless" thieves who stole around £6000 worth of kit from her car.

The items belonging to Samra Bashir were stolen in what she believes to be a targeted incident in Govanhill last week.

The 37-year-old left her kit in her car around 2pm on Monday, January 10 after she parked on Dixon Avenue around the corner from her flat and didn’t want to take her make-up bag, skincare, lash kit and hair kit up two flights of stairs.

When she returned to the car on the afternoon of Wednesday, January 12 she quickly realised something wasn’t right.

Samra said: "I locked my door and then I crossed the road and as I was crossing, I thought 'I’m just going to make sure I did lock my door' and I turned around and my wing mirrors were in, so I knew it was locked because as soon as I lock it the wing mirrors turn inside.

"When I went out Wednesday, as I walked up to my car, I noticed that the wing mirrors were out and then I looked inside and there was just stuff all over my car, like the stuff I had in the front was all over my driver’s seat.

"And then I thought, ‘oh my god, my kit is in the boot’ and then I opened it and it was all gone."

Samra believes the theft was targeted as all her make-up was taken from the car, including a half-used lipliner and lipstick in the front, but two pairs of clearly visible designer sunglasses were left behind.

The full-time make-up artist says the stolen kit was worth around £4500 used but had a value of around £6000 full price.

She had to cancel jobs on Thursday and Friday, losing out on £450 to £500, and has already spent more than £2000 replacing items so she can continue to work.

Samra said: "It took me years to build it up because I’ve been working for 10 years in make-up, so it was just devastating.

"I think it’s the worst nightmare for a hair and make-up artist for all your stuff to be taken.

"I don’t live off anything else, that’s what I do for a living, so I was just in disbelief."

She added: "I think for someone to do that is so heartless.

"I’ve lost earnings, there’s no way I’m going to get that back.

"But someone who does stuff like that, something will come back to them anyway."

As well as the expense of replacing her kit, Samra will now have to fork out to get the locks changed on her car as she said police believe her key may have been cloned.

Samra’s friend Kiran Farooq and her sister Arooj Farooq have since started a GoFundMe to help raise funds to replace the stolen items.

She said: "I felt like she went out of her way to do that, it’s so kind, and the response has been great.

"I think that made me feel better in thinking not everything is so bad like there’s a way of getting there quicker and people were happy to help as well.

"A lot of people tried to donate makeup and stuff, but I just don’t have the time to go around collecting makeup from everywhere, but I was so grateful that they even thought of that."

She added: "I just want to say a massive thank you to everyone that's supported me.

"My family, friends, amazing and loyal clients and strangers who didn't even know me but donated."
