A man has been found dead within the grounds of a hospital in the city's East End.

The 61-year-old man was discovered at the Glasgow Royal Infirmary in the early hours of this morning.

Officers were still in attendance at the scene at around 10 am today, Thursday 20, however, the death is not currently being treated as suspicious.

An eyewitness told the Glasgow Times that she saw two police within the lane leading up to the hospital.

She said: "It surprised me because the gate is always locked and no one is ever down there.

"I also saw detectives arrive so it must have been something bad."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 2.15 am on Thursday, 20 January 2022, a 61-year-old man was found dead within the grounds of Glasgow Royal Infirmary, Castle Street, Glasgow.

“The death is being treated as unexplained but not suspicious and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course.”
