POLICE are set to increase patrols around a Rutherglen school after a rammy broke out between rival pupils.

The Scottish Sun reports that cops raced to Stonelaw Road around 12.50pm yesterday following reports of a brawl between kids from different schools. 

A shocking video of the incident is reported to show one young boy being thrown to the ground before others "stomp on him", while another shows girls pulling each others hair.

Several adults, who are understood to be teachers, were seen trying to break up the battle. 

Enquiries into what happened remain ongoing and local residents have been told there will be an increased police presence. 

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 12.50pm on Wednesday, January 19, police received a report of a disturbance in the Stonelaw Road area of Rutherglen.

"A number of pupils were returned to their respective schools and enquiries into the circumstances remain ongoing.

"There will be an increased police presence in the area over the coming days."

Head of education Anne Donaldson told The Scottish Sun: "We are aware of an incident that happened outside school at lunchtime on Wednesday.

"School staff reacted quickly and played an active part in intervening to de-escalate the incident.

"Police attended and are carrying out enquiries.

"High schools continue to work in partnership with the Police, pupils and the community to promote positive behaviour and personal safety when out and about at lunchtime and to report any concerns they may have."
