A THUG who smashed a bottle of vodka over his father's head was jailed yesterday for 15 months.

William Highlands jnr, 31, turned on William Highlands snr, 61, at their flat in Glasgow's Gorbals on September 17, 2021.

The pair had been drinking together before Highlands jnr lashed out at Mr Highlands causing two head wounds.

Highlands jnr pleaded guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to assaulting Mr Highlands snr to his injury.

The court heard the pair were in the living room at around 10.40pm.

Prosecutor Emma Baker said: "Highlands jnr struck his dad over the head with a vodka bottle which caused two wounds to the top of his head."

Highlands snr dialled 999 and told the operator that he had been assaulted.

Officers later arrived to find "signs of a disturbance" including blood on the floor and items strewn across the living room.

The pair were still in the living room with Highlands jnr under a duvet holding a blood stained bottle of vodka.

Highlands snr was found to have two one-inch head wounds which were bleeding heavily.

The attacker was arrested while the victim initially refused medical treatment.

He later attended hospital where his wounds were glued.

Miss Baker said: "While on route to the police station, Highlands jnr made admissions to police that his dad had hit him on the head with an ashtray and he struck him with a bottle."
