A STRETCH of a busy Glasgow motorway has reopened after it was closed for around 20 hours following a crash.

The M8 closed to westbound traffic at junction 12 (Cumbernauld Road) after a crash involving a car, a van, and a lorry took place near junction 13 at around 11.50am yesterday.

Three of the five lanes on the eastbound carriageway also closed as well as the M80 southbound, which shut to assist with recovery.

Glasgow City Council's Traffic Control and Management (TRAFFCOM) team announced that the motorway reopened shortly after 7am today.

Police Scotland confirmed last night that the 25-year-old male driver of the van had been arrested in connection with suspected road traffic offences.
