TWO selfless Glasgow boys are raising money selling eggs in their street to support the charities helping their grandparents going through illness.

Enterprising Rio Fay and Callum Peacock, 10, had the idea after two of their grandparents received support from Parkinson’s UK and Beatson Cancer Charity.

So far, they have raised more than £140 over two weekends, setting up an egg stall at the corner of Cathcart Road and Cumming Drive, in Mount Florida.

Initially, they were buying eggs from a local shop, however, due to their unexpected success, they are planning to repeat the sale every weekend, sourcing eggs from a local farm.

The dedicated pair have even ordered matching t-shirts to wear at their stand.

Rio’s mum, Siobhan Fay, said: “We got really good feedback from the community, with people asking if the boys would be out next week, and this is really really nice.

“Rio told me a lady didn’t actually buy anything and just gave them £10.

“They’re very chatty and they did say to everybody that the money is going to charity so I think a lot of people put a wee bit extra in.

“They're quite proud of themselves and pretty excited about it and they're just dead focused on it, like 'we can do this, and we can do that'.”

Rio said: “Last weekend we were about to go home because it was really cold and then a guy came in a Tesla and bought four boxes!”

The kids’ parents were touched by the initiative, which also earned the boys a headteacher’s award at school.

Siobhan added: “We're really supporting the boys and what they want to do, it's a fantastic idea as they are two charities close to our families.

“I am really proud, it's actually heartwarming.”

Jan Mattison, Regional Fundraiser for West of Scotland at Parkinson's UK said: "Rio and Callum have done fantastic work in raising funds for Parkinson's UK by selling eggs at the weekend and we are all absolutely bowled over by the effort they are putting in.

"There are over 1,000 people living with Parkinson's throughout Glasgow City and we hope this puts a real smile on their face."

A Beatson Cancer Charity spokesperson said: “We are so grateful to Rio and Callum for giving up their time at the weekend to fundraise for Beatson Cancer Charity.

“We are blown away by their kindness - what a wonderful idea to raise money for charities supporting their grandparents.

“We’re sure their families will be very proud of them.”
