A DRIVER ploughed into two vehicles with his faulty car and fled the scene.

Damien Murray smashed into a BMW 116 and Ford Transit van in Glasgow’s Parkhead on June 21, 2020.

The 31-year-old took a bend at excessive speed and failed to brake in time before lodging his Vauxhall Safira between the vehicles.

Murray initially reversed before running away on foot when the vehicle owners confronted him.

Murray - who has previous convictions - pleaded guilty on Monday at Glasgow Sheriff Court to the single dangerous driving charge.

He was fined £297 and disqualified from driving for 17 months by sheriff Bernard Ablett.

The court heard Murray, of the city’s Dalmarnock, was on Springfield Road and attempted to turn right on to Sorn Street.

Prosecutor Paula Wedlock said: “As he did so, he lost control of the vehicle and collided with two other vehicles parked at the junction - causing damage to both.”

Christopher McCabe heard tyres screeching and found Murray’s car “wedged” in between his car and a van.

The owner of the van and Mr McCabe approached Murray’s car and tried to open the driver’s door.

Miss Wedlock added: “Murray began moving and reversed while they were doing so.

“He then got out his vehicle - leaving it in the middle of the road - and made off.”

Police were initially unable to trace Murray.

His lawyer Marisa Borland told the court that he was given the car from his brother.

She said: “He accepts the car was in poor condition.

“It was clear from the CCTV that he made efforts to apply the brakes but left it a little too late.”
