AN unexploded bomb was discovered at a busy road near Glasgow prompting a police investigation.
Officers were called to the discovery of the wartime device at the A8 Shawhead in Coatbridge this afternoon.
The bomb squad, Explosives Ordnance Disposal (EOD), scoured the scene and determined that the item was a harmless gas canister.
The road later re-opened.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 2.45 pm on Monday, January 24, police were called following the discovery of what was thought to be an unexploded wartime device near to the A8, Shawhead, Coatbridge.
"The EOD attended and following examination it was confirmed that the item, identified as a gas canister, posed no threat to the public.
"The on and off ramp from the A725 to the A8, which was closed as a precaution at the time, is now open."
