GLASGOW is to be battered by gale-force gusts next week, as the Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for wind.

The weather agency is predicting very strong winds late on Wednesday, February 16, and overnight into Thursday, February 17.

The warning, issued on Sunday morning, will be in place for 24 hours, from 6pm on Wednesday, until 6pm on Thursday.

Gusts of up to 70mph are forecast in inland Scotland, with winds reaching 90mph in coastal locations and at higher altitudes.

Meteorologists said the strong winds could lead to flying debris causing a chance of injuries and "danger to life".

The strong winds will be accompanied by heavy rain throughout Wednesday in Glasgow, but conditions should improve on Thursday afternoon.
