A MAN has appeared in court today accused of murdering an amputee in the city's East End.

Mark McConville, 37, allegedly assaulted William Duncan at his home in Glasgow's Sandyhills on an occasion between January 21 and February 3 this year.

It is claimed McConville struck Mr Duncan on the neck with a knife or a similar instrument.

He is then stated to have seized Mr Duncan by the body and restrained him by tying ligatures around his arms and wrists.

McConville is alleged to have inserted items into Mr Duncan's mouth and secured it with a ligature.

Mr Duncan is claimed to have been unable to remove the items which caused him to asphyxiate and die.

His body was found at the property on Glenalmond Street at 11am on February 3.

McConville faces further charges of stealing a phone, a TV and a gold wedding ring from Mr Duncan.

He is also accused of stealing his bank card and using it to take a variety of cash from banks on the day of the alleged murder as well as the several days after.

One allegation states that McConville induced an employee at a Royal Bank of Scotland for £3.20 by fraud.

McConville made no plea at a hearing in Glasgow Sheriff Court.

A further hearing will take place within the next eight days.

McConville, also of Sandyhills, was remanded in custody meantime by sheriff Tom Hughes.
