A man has been left seriously injured following a late-night doorstep attack in Larkhall.

The 67-year-old opened the door to his home in Machanhill to two masked men.

They then attacked him and threw an 'unknown substance' into his face before fleeing the scene.

Emergency services rushed to attend to the man's serious injuries and transported him to University Hospital Wishaw where he remains in a serious condition.

Detectives are searching to determine a motive for the attack which took place at around 11.25 pm on Friday, February 11.

The incident is now being treated as attempted murder with police appealing for any information the public may have to share.

One suspect is described as wearing a 'dark coloured medium-length jacket' with his hood up. He was also wearing 'wearing white trainers and carrying a white carrier bag'.

The second is said to have been dressed in all black with his hood also up.

Both were wearing surgical style masks.

The men were last seen walking on Hareleeshill Road towards John Street.

Detective Inspector Susie Cairns said: “We are working to establish the full circumstances of this attack and the reason for it.

"A man has been left seriously injured and it’s imperative we trace the men responsible.

"I am appealing to anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident to contact us with any information.

“We know the suspects were walking up Hareleeshill Road towards John Street so I would ask any motorists with dash cams who were in those locations to check the footage and pass on any images which could assist our ongoing investigation.

"All information is vital as we piece together the motive for this attack.”
