A HEARTBROKEN mum has been targetted by cruel trolls posing as her dead daughter on social media.

Elaine Cunningham, 46, from Dennistoun told the Daily Record that she has been 'bombarded' by requests on Facebook and Instagram by people using her daughter Lauren Reid's pictures and name on the social media sites.

Tragic Lauren passed away two years ago at the age of 19 after suffering an asthma attack at work.

She had forgotten her inhaler and went into cardiac arrest while on shift at city bar Gin71.

Since Lauren's death, Elaine has been campaigning to have life-saving inhalers installed in every kitchen.

She told the Record: "I have experienced the worst possible hurt and pain in my life after losing my daughter, so the trolls can’t do much to me now.

"I have been sent friendship requests on Facebook and Instagram from people posing as my daughter so many times since I lost Lauren.

“Sometimes even seeing Lauren’s face can make me cry. Seeing these profiles using her pictures is really hard.

"Unfortunately catfishing is just something I've been forced to get used to over the last two years."

Fake fundraising appeals have even been made in Elaine's name.

She added: "People even try to make money out of my daughter's death with fake fundraisers.

"I won’t let trolls stop me from talking about Lauren and putting her name out there.

"If anything they are helping keep her name in the spotlight. It almost takes some of the sting out of it.

“I don’t sleep well anymore. I just work on Lauren’s Law full time and I hope it makes a difference to another family.

Elaine's efforts in fighting for "Lauren's Law" have been recognised by the UK Government in a Campaign of the Year Award.

Elaine added: "If inhalers had been in Lauren's work she could have survived and still be here with me.

“I want my girl to save other lives now with Lauren’s Law that will make inhalers available in work environments.”
