A taxi driver has been commended for driving customers all the way to London after their flight from Glasgow was cancelled.

Elite Central Travel, a coach and minibus hire based in Falkirk, were hired to take a group of holidaymakers to Glasgow Airport for a connecting flight to London before they embark on a Caribbean cruise.

However, when their Glasgow flight was cancelled due to the weather, the driver decided to take them all the way to Heathrow so they would not miss out.

Elite Central Travel posted on social media: "Elite Central Travel were meant to be taking customers to Glasgow Airport this morning for their connecting flight to London before they headed of on a Caribbean Cruise.

"Unfortunately at 9pm last night British Airways cancelled their flight to London. After an hour or so of trying to help them get another flight and to no avail we all agreed the only option was to take the customers to London Heathrow or they would lose their holiday.

"With some treacherous weather on the way down we eventually arrived at Heathrow. Elite Central Travel take great pride in looking after our customers maybe British Airways could learn a thing or two from us.

"Have a great time folks and we will see you back at Glasgow Airport in two weeks."

Social media users were full of praise for the driver, with one commenting: "That must have been so stressful for everyone. Well done for going the extra mile (or 400)."

Another said: "Way to go, amazing that you guys look after your clients. Safe journey back."

An Elite customer, who referred to the driver as John, said: "Well done John. I remember the snow you drove through to get us to Edinburgh.

"Couldn't see a thing. It was pitch black and snowing a blizzard. That was a scary drive, but you got us there safely."

Elaine Watson, who John took to Heathrow, seized the opportunity to thank him.

She said: "Thank you so much John. We've started to relax a bit. See you in two weeks."
