A FUNDRAISER has been launched for the funeral of a lollipop lady who was "loved by the whole community".

Jackie Shiels worked as a lollipop lady for 23 years in the Westfield area of Cumbernauld and sadly passed away after a 16-month battle with metastatic lung cancer.

Now her daughter Sharlene is raising funds on Gofundme for a special send-off for her mum.

Sharlene said: "She was loved by the whole Westfield community and beyond. She worked as a lollipop lady for 23 years and knew every single child’s name and always remembered them all the way from primary one to beyond high school.

"She loved her job and even when she was sick she just wanted to go back to work to see the children and have a have a chat and gossip with all the mums, dads, carers and anyone who would cross her path.

Sharlene added that due to covid the family "didn't get the chance to do everything we wanted" before Jackie's passing.

They are also appealing for help in saying goodbye as their financial situation "won't let us do that".
