LIONEL Richie fans will be "dancing on the ceiling" next month when a show celebrating the soul superstar comes to Glasgow.

Lionel: The Music of Lionel Richie will be at the Pavillion Theatre on Sunday, March 13.

The production will feature Malcolm Pitt, who has performed as a Lionel Richie tribute for around 20 years, on lead vocals which he says is an "absolute honour".

Malcolm said: "I’ve been privileged enough to work with Lionel Richie and tell him what an honour it is to sing his songs and he’s written so many brilliant songs and to sing them... it’s fantastic."

"My favourite song, even before doing Lionel Richie, I used to love Easy by the Commodores which Lionel Richie wrote and that is my favourite song still today and to perform that any time is brilliant."

The award-winning production includes a line-up of world-class musicians and features many popular hits such Hello, All Night Long and Three Times A Lady.

Malcolm said: "It’s a very exciting show.

"At the beginning, you’re going from a fast party song to the beautiful ballads, so it’s an up and down experience.

"Ultimately sing along and have a dance, it’s a good night out like it would be at a Lionel Richie concert, it’s that kind of feel so you can let your hair down and have a good time."

After delays caused by the pandemic, Malcolm says it's "wonderful" to be back on tour after opening the show in Essex at the end of last month.

He said: "It was nice to see a full sold-out theatre again and people coming out to have a good time.

"Not that we took it for granted but I mean I think the audience were so appreciative, they had a fantastic time and you could feel a shift, you could feel a difference."

Malcolm added he's looking forward to performing for a Glasgow audience again.

He said: "I've played Glasgow before so I know what the vibe is like up there, it's absolutely fantastic, I can't wait to get back up there."

Malcolm has previously appeared with Lionel Richie on Sunday Night At The Palladium and the Graham Norton Show and said he is "amazed I do what I do and he loves it".
