With an impending move and endless packing consuming my life, when the chance of a stay at the DoubleTree by Hilton Glasgow Westerwood Spa and Golf Resort appeared, of course, I jumped at the opportunity.

With incredible spa and health club facilities, comfortable rooms and two onsite restaurants, the stay couldn't have come at a better time as is the perfect location for an out of city detox.

Here is my review of DoubleTree by Hilton Glasgow Westerwood.

Arrival/Check in

For those commuting from Glasgow, it is a short, easy drive. From the east end with minimal traffic, the drive took around 20 minutes, straight down the M80.

Glasgow Times:

On arrival the snowy day added to the beautiful backdrop of the Westerwood Golf Course, and a warm welcome awaited in reception.

With everything explained from directions, restaurant times and everywhere I could sit with my dog (yes, it’s dog friendly!) I headed to my room excited for some spa treatments.

Spa

The spa facilities in the hotel are extensive, with relaxation areas, a pool and a range of treatments sure to ease even the most stressful of days.

I opted for a body scrub and back and shoulder massage. With it being my first time at a spa, I was apprehensive and unsure if this would be something I’d enjoy.

Glasgow Times:

These concerns of course vanished instantly and I enjoyed the most relaxing treatments. The masseuse was friendly, professional and kept me at total ease.

The scrub left my skin feeling soft for days after and the massage eased bad posture pain I’d learned to live with.

After the massage, the masseuse led me to a relaxation area with pod and lounge chairs and fresh water to rehydrate.

Room

I was lucky enough to stay in one of the hotel’s suites. On entering the room there was a large bathroom to the left with a beautiful walk-in shower.

The bedroom itself had a large king size bed, TV and desk and chair. When opening the door to what I thought was a cupboard, another room revealed itself with a double sofa bed, a single bed, a table and 4 chairs and another TV.

Glasgow Times:

In this room there was also mini fridge facilities as well as a kettle with teas and coffees.

The room was incredibly comfortable and spacious with gorgeous snowy views over the golf course.

And of course, nothing quite compares to collapsing on your hotel bed at the end of a long day, and this bed was no exception.

Dog Friendly

As dog owners will know, trying to find pet friendly accommodation can be a challenge. And when looking for somewhere you can take your pet you don’t just want somewhere you have to leave them in the room all day.

On arrival at the hotel, Jess, my border collie was very pleased to see how dog friendly it was. At the reception, the welcome was warm to both humans and canines, and we were told everywhere we could sit together.

Glasgow Times:

With specific seating areas in the bars and restaurants, reception was even able to ensure you had specific seats booked so your furry friend can join you (Jess opted for an evening nap whilst I dined).

After a relaxing jaunt to the spa, Jess and I passed the time until dinner with a good book and glass of prosecco in the bar.

After dinner, Jess was able to join me for one more drink in the bar before heading to bed for the night.

Bar/Restaurant

A hotel restaurant and bar doesn’t need to boast a whole lot more than convenience, but both provided excellent service and delicious cocktails!

Glasgow Times:

The bar was spacious and comfortable and had a beautiful roaring fire. Quiet enough to sit with a good book and busy enough to enjoy some people watching if visiting alone.

The service was great, and probably the best cosmopolitan I’ve ever had.

The Flemings restaurant follows through from the bar and is very large and decorated to a high standard.

Glasgow Times:

For starter, I opted for the smoked salmon. If you’re a fish lover, there’s nothing worse than receiving a small plate, with a tiny portion and a big price tag. This was not the case at Glasgow Westerwood. The portion was so big, it couldn’t be finished.

The salmon itself was beautiful and fresh, and paired with a complimentary cream sauce.

For the main I played it safe with the Ultimate Burger which unfortunately was a bit disappointing and lacked flavour. However, the success of the starter and dessert made it clear this could be a one off.

Glasgow Times:

For dessert, a berry cheesecake topped it off perfectly.

Throughout the meal staff were friendly and attentive, and my drink was not empty for long.

Flemings is just one restaurant on the premise, with The Grill Restaurant also available for guests and residents.

Breakfast

Nothing beats a hotel breakfast. The selection of juices, fruits and of course the array of cooked foods to fill you up for the day.

Glasgow Times:

The Glasgow Westerwood breakfast was unlike no other. Guests are treated to an extensive section of cooked foods, pastries, fruits and even a make-your-own pancake station.

Pots of tea and coffee are replaced by a coffee machine producing cappuccinos, lattes and more.

Glasgow Times:

You can even enjoy a range of fruit juices including the traditional orange and apple as well as refreshing extras such as rhubarb.

It’s hard to imagine a breakfast that could top it!

Check out

Glasgow Times:

With a check out time of 11, there was plenty time after breakfast to enjoy the health club facilities before leaving.

The checkout was as friendly as the arrival, with a big fuss made of a Jess and further checks that our stay was okay.

Another short 20 minute drive and I was back in Glasgow after a relaxing and refreshing stay at DoubleTree by Hilton Glasgow Westerwood Spa and Golf Resort.
